Craig Simmons

Chairman and Chief Footprinter.

Craig is one of the most respected, busy, and sought-after leaders in the European environmental community. Craig serves on a number of working groups and committees that are analyzing, revising and publishing new carbon protocols and standards.

Craig takes the lead on footprinter architecture and is responsible for client engagements, business and partnership development. Craig fully designed the first version of footprinter.

In addition to numerous current policy assignments, Craig’s list of accomplishments include:

  • Co-founding Best Foot Forward, a leading European environmental consultancy, in 1997.
  • Being a founding member of the Global Footprint Network. Member of the International Footprint Standards Committee.
  • Taking technical lead on numerous ground-breaking Best Foot Forward projects.
  • Being one of the team drafting the update to the GHG Protocol, due in early 2010.
  • Acting as adviser to United Nations, European Environment Agency, Carbon Trust, European Commission, World Business Council on Sustainable Development and World Resources Institute.
  • Co-authoring several books including Sharing Natures’ Interest (on ecological footprinting) and The ZEDBook (a definitive guide to creating low-carbon communities). Craig is busy writing a secret new book on carbon risk, based on interviews with forward-thinking business leaders.
  • Being the first to ride his bicycle to Buckingham Palace to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Sustainable Development.

Nicky Chambers

Director. Nicky is the business side of the footprinter team.

Nicky co-founded Best Foot Forward with Craig in 1997, having previously worked for the CBI and the World Travel and Tourism Council and built a successful environmental management and training consultancy. In 2008 she took a step back to her roots in corporate strategy and communications and swapped her role as MD for Strategy Director. She is now responsible for directing a number of projects, particularly those with direct input to corporate strategy and change management.

She has a BSc Environmental Science and MSc Environmental Technology. She is threatening to do a degree in Economics.


Adam Lofts

Head of Engineering. Adam is responsible for footprinter development, testing and deployment. Adam spends the majority of his time developing the next version of footprinter, due for beta release in the first quarter of 2010.

Adam joined Best Foot Forward in 2008 as a software engineer focusing on enhancing the footprinter development framework and producing customized footprinter applications for clients. Adam is also an experienced web developer, and manages development of the Best Foot Forward and footprinter websites.

Adam’s software background has its roots in the open source community with whom he is still an active member. He previously worked in an IT role for Oxford University and as an independent web developer. Adam has a BSc in Mathematics from Warwick University.


Claire Stentiford

Head of Operations. In addition to being responsible for all plant life in the office, Claire looks after day-to-day operations of the websites and the footprinter applications and data warehouse.

Claire joined Best Foot Forward as an analyst in 2004. She has carried out carbon and ecological footprint studies of products, organizations, transportation and regions, and worked on the carbon management strategy for London 2012. Claire now brings this knowledge to manage the development of the footprinter software and other online tools.

Claire has a BSc in Biochemistry and had a previous life in IT as programmer and systems analyst.


Luhui Yan

Software Engineer. Luhui supports the current versions of footprinter and associated databases. His primary responsibility is working with Adam on the next version of footprinter, due for beta release in the first quarter of 2010.

Luhui recently joined footprinter from YTEC Company in Beijing where he had been working in software development for internet banking projects.

Luhui has a MSc in Computer Science from Oxford University.
